The 2027 Wrangler JL-2A brings Jeep’s military heritage into sharper focus as the latest special edition in the brand’s yearlong Twelve 4 Twelve series, honoring the 1945 Willys CJ-2A with a collection of retro-inspired details.
Jeep Connects the Wrangler to Its Military Roots
Jeep’s history began with military vehicles, with then-Willys-Overland supplying the Willys MB to the U.S. Army during World War II. The brand has continued to reflect that heritage in its modern vehicles, including the Wrangler’s design cues inspired by the original Willys CJ-2A, Jeep’s first civilian vehicle.
The 2027 Wrangler JL-2A makes that connection more explicit. Based on the Wrangler Rubicon, the special edition pays tribute to the 1945 Willys CJ-2A and serves as the 11th installment of Jeep’s Twelve 4 Twelve series.
It follows the Smoky Mountain Edition, which drew inspiration from the natural landscape and large Jeep enthusiast community of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Most of the JL-2A’s changes are cosmetic, both inside and out. Jeep says the package costs just $115 more than a similarly equipped Rubicon.
Retro Styling Meets the Modern Wrangler
The Wrangler JL-2A features 17-inch Joose-painted retro wheels inspired by the original Sunset Red wheels. They are fitted with 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires and paired with orange tow hooks at both the front and rear.
Jeep highlights the two-door model in sandy beige Gobi, a color inspired by the original’s Harvest Tan finish. The four-door model is offered in military-inspired ’41 green.
Additional color choices include Bright White, Sting Gray, Ghost and Joose.
A Heritage-Inspired Interior
Inside, the JL-2A introduces a first-ever Wrangler combination of interior colors and materials. The cabin features Nappa Heritage Tan leather seats, Bison Brown door panels, a Bison Brown lower instrument panel and center console, along with Desert Orange accent stitching.
The HVAC vents receive heritage-inspired graphics featuring Jeep’s iconic seven-slot grille and a Willys silhouette.
The package also includes body-color fender flares and a three-piece hardtop. Dark Metallic Grey grille accents, an exclusive rear swing-gate plaque and a Willys-Overland satin-chrome shifter medallion add further special-edition details.
Standard equipment includes a front TrailCam with an integrated washer and the Convenience Group, which adds remote start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a universal garage door opener.
2027 Wrangler JL-2A Price and Availability
Jeep is pricing the Wrangler JL-2A package at $4,995, with orders scheduled to open in October.
October is also scheduled to bring the final installment of the Twelve 4 Twelve series, which was launched to celebrate Jeep’s 85th anniversary.

The Wrangler JL-2A joins the other models introduced as part of the Twelve 4 Twelve series, including the inaugural Moab 392, Whitecap, 85th Anniversary Edition, Willys 392, Rockslide, Rewind, America250 Edition, Sarge, Laredo and Smoky Mountain.
With its JL-2A package, Jeep continues the Twelve 4 Twelve series by bringing design elements inspired by the 1945 Willys CJ-2A to the modern Wrangler Rubicon.
