The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has appeared in new spy photos, revealing an exceptionally aggressive design that pushes the road car closer to the look of a GT3 racecar than previous AMG models.

The upcoming Black Series will be the first vehicle to carry the badge since its predecessor launched in 2021. Its extensive aerodynamic hardware, wider body and expected increase in power mark a major departure from the more restrained approach once associated with high-performance supercars.

2027 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Shows Extreme Aero

The latest spy shots feature slightly different camouflage, providing a clearer look at the AMG GT Black Series. From the front, the car is visibly wider than the regular AMG GT and features a new interpretation of Mercedes-AMG’s Panamerica grille.

The grille could incorporate elements similar to those seen on the recently revealed Mythos AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung. Canards positioned on either side of the grille, along with an aggressive front splitter, are designed to help keep the front end planted on the track.

Active vents in the front fenders will also play an important aerodynamic role. They are expected to relieve pressure inside the turbulent wheel wells at high speeds and may flip upward under hard braking to help slow the car more quickly. The vents can then fold down when the GT Black Series needs to reduce drag.

Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Expected to Exceed 720 HP

Two large bulges extend along the hood, which features a massive, Dodge Viper-like nostril feeding what is expected to be a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-plane crank V8.

Additional hood vents that fade toward the A-pillars are presumably intended to help cool the powertrain. The engine is expected to produce more than the 720 horsepower delivered by its predecessor.

Three-pointed-star elements can be seen inside the headlights, while the redesigned taillights feature elliptical three-element clusters reminiscent of the AMG ONE. Carbon-ceramic brakes are visible behind center-locking wheels.

Wide Body and Racecar-Inspired Rear Design

Each front fender features another large vent ahead of a custom door panel. The extremely wide side sills incorporate a fin behind each front wheel to smooth airflow along the sides of the car.

The side skirts also direct attention toward twin side-exit exhaust tips, suggesting that AMG has installed an enormous diffuser that could extend from ahead of the rear axle.

From the rear, the diffuser appears more suited to a purpose-built GT3 racecar than a roadgoing vehicle. Additional airflow channels on either side help clean up the air coming from the rear wheels, while much of the rear section above the diffuser appears to be covered with vented mesh.

A small ducktail lip spoiler and a vent near the rear window are almost overshadowed by the massive swan-neck rear wing. The wing features actuators, indicating that some type of drag reduction system could be used.

Because the rear wing extends beyond the back of the car, making it illegal for road use in most regions, it is suspected to be a track-only option.

AMG GT Black Series Stands Apart From the Lineup

The extensive aerodynamic package gives the AMG GT Black Series an unusually aggressive appearance. Its rear windshield appears almost insignificant beside the numerous aero components, while the enormous diffuser has forced the exhaust outlets into a different position.

The design points to the Black Series becoming the most extreme model in the AMG lineup. The available space also suggests that the car will not be electrified, as there appears to be little room for a battery pack or electric motors alongside the massive diffuser.

The full details of the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series are expected to emerge before the end of the year.
