A nearly untouched Buick GNX is attracting major attention on Bring A Trailer, where the current bid has reached $275,000. The 1987 model, one of just 547 GNXs produced, has covered only 30 miles since new.

That exceptionally low mileage makes this example notably different from other GNXs recently sold, including a 5,000-mile car that changed hands for around $180,000 earlier this month.

Why This Buick GNX Is Commanding $275,000

The odometer reading is the biggest distinction. This GNX, number 450 of 547, has accumulated barely enough mileage to run in a modern car, leaving it with almost no meaningful wear after nearly four decades.

Like every other GNX produced, it wears black paint and features a two-tone black and Sand Grey interior. The car also has 16-inch cross-lace wheels finished in black with polished lips.

Despite using a V6 rather than a V8, the GNX delivers substantial performance. Buick rated its 3.8-liter V6 at 276 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, although the model has long been believed to produce considerably more.

Period dyno testing recorded approximately 300 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Its performance supported those figures, with the GNX reaching 60 mph in less than five seconds.

Buick GNX Received Major Performance Upgrades

The GNX was more than simply a more powerful Grand National. Buick worked with ASC/McLaren to make the coupe more serious, introducing changes to the turbocharger, intercooler, exhaust and suspension.

The car retains front suspension components from the standard Grand National, while the rear received a Panhard rod, torque arm and additional frame crossmember. Braking comes from power-assisted front discs and rear drums.

Buick initially planned to build only 500 examples. The final production total reached 547 after an additional 47 cars were allocated to qualifying dealers, resulting in the unusual production figure.

Rare Interior and Original Memorabilia

Inside, the GNX features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black and Sand Gray cloth. The front-seat headrests carry “Turbo 6” embroidery.

Equipment includes a power-adjustable driver’s seat, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and a period-correct Delco cassette stereo with a graphic equaliser.

The buyer will also receive memorabilia associated with the vehicle, as well as copies of the window sticker and manufacturer’s literature.

Only 30 Miles After Nearly Four Decades

While the memorabilia and equipment add to the car’s appeal, the defining feature remains its extremely low mileage. Only 547 GNXs were built, and far fewer have survived nearly four decades with just 30 miles on the odometer.

With bidding currently at $275,000 on Bring A Trailer, this example represents an exceptionally low-mileage opportunity for a collector seeking a factory-fresh Buick GNX.
