Ford F-150 Lightning owners who feared losing significant value after the electric pickup’s production ended are reporting unexpectedly strong resale offers. Several owners say they have received trade-in offers approaching their original purchase prices, with some using the proceeds to switch to Rivian’s R2 electric SUV.

Although the reports come from a small group of individual owners rather than the broader used EV market, they suggest that some Lightning models may be holding their value better than expected.

Ford F-150 Lightning Owners Report Offers Above $46,000

Members of a Ford F-150 Lightning owners group on Facebook have shared details of offers they received while considering selling their electric trucks.

One owner said Carvana offered him “just a little less than we paid new,” allowing him to receive more than $48,000 for his truck. He also confirmed that he ordered a Rivian R2, explaining that his family rarely used the pickup bed and wanted a smaller vehicle.

Other owners reported offers of $47,500 for a 2024 Lariat and approximately $46,000 for a 2024 Flash.

Another owner sold his Lightning through Plug because he was concerned about Ford’s commitment to continuing support for the vehicle.

These figures represent individual offers and sales rather than average resale values across the entire F-150 Lightning market.

Used Electric Vehicle Prices Are Moving Higher

The reported offers come as used electric vehicle prices continue to increase. Available data indicates that prices have climbed by more than 5 percent since January this year.

Analysts attribute part of the increased demand to high gasoline prices. Meanwhile, one member of the Lightning owners group believes the end of new Lightning production has contributed to stronger resale values.

Owners considering selling their trucks are advised to obtain multiple offers before making a decision, as individual valuations can vary.

Ford Promises Continued Support for Existing Lightning Trucks

Despite the end of production, existing F-150 Lightning owners are not necessarily being left without manufacturer support.

Ford has said it will provide original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts for at least 10 years from the final model year. The automaker has also committed to continuing over-the-air software updates.

The truck’s battery coverage extends for 8 years or 100,000 miles, providing additional protection for existing owners.

These commitments mean that keeping an F-150 Lightning remains an option for owners who are concerned about the vehicle’s long-term support.

Rivian R2 Prices, Range and Performance

The Rivian R2 is attracting attention from Lightning owners looking for a smaller electric vehicle. The Launch Package starts at $57,990, plus destination, and delivers 656 horsepower.

It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and offers an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 330 miles.

Additional R2 versions are scheduled to arrive at different price points:

  • Launch Package: Starts at $57,990, plus destination.
  • Premium: Priced at $53,990 and arriving later this year.
  • Standard: Starts at $48,490 in 2027.
  • Lower-priced Standard: Expected later in 2027, with a starting price of around $45,000.

Strong Lightning Resale Values Could Help Buyers Switch

The reported trade-in offers could make switching from the Ford F-150 Lightning to the Rivian R2 more financially attractive for some owners. However, the cheapest R2 configuration is still scheduled to arrive later in 2027.

For Lightning owners, the decision comes down to weighing current resale offers against the cost and timing of moving into a Rivian R2, while also considering Ford’s continued support commitments for their existing electric trucks.
