Nissan posted a strong second quarter in the United States, with sales climbing 10.2% to 230,443 vehicles as the automaker extended its streak of year-over-year retail sales growth to 16 consecutive months. The gains were led by the Rogue and Sentra, while Infiniti’s results remained nearly unchanged despite a changing lineup.
Nissan Group Records Strong First-Half Performance
Overall Nissan Group sales increased 9.6% in the first half of the year, reaching 242,741 units.
Nissan’s core brand delivered 230,443 vehicle sales during the second quarter, up 10.2% compared with the same period last year.
The Rogue remained the company’s best-selling vehicle, with 65,796 units sold, representing a 38.6% increase year over year. Nissan also said it expects additional momentum when the redesigned Rogue arrives later this year featuring an all-new e-Power system.
Sentra Surges While Several Models Decline
The redesigned Sentra continued to gain traction, with second-quarter sales rising 28.5% to 39,817 units.
Those gains were partially offset by weaker demand for other passenger cars. Altima sales declined 26.5%, while Z sales dropped 50.7% to 806 units. Nissan did not provide a reason for the decline, although it noted that the facelifted 2027 Z, announced in March, is scheduled to arrive at dealerships this summer with revised styling, updated equipment, performance enhancements, and a new six-speed manual transmission for the Nismo variant.
Nissan also confirmed that the Kicks recorded its best June ever. Second-quarter sales climbed 4.9% to 26,251 units, while year-to-date deliveries increased 10.7%.
The redesigned Leaf moved in the opposite direction. Second-quarter sales fell 36.6% to 1,016 units, and year-to-date sales were down 57.1%.
SUVs and Trucks Continue to Deliver Growth
Several Nissan trucks and SUVs posted notable gains during the quarter.
- Frontier sales increased 34.6%.
- Pathfinder sales rose 32.1%, marking its best-ever quarter.
- Armada sales climbed 27.0%.
- Murano sales increased 6.4%.
Infiniti Sales Hold Steady as QX65 Debuts
Infiniti reported second-quarter sales of 12,298 vehicles, a slight decline of 0.2% compared with the same period last year, representing a difference of 29 vehicles.
The phase-out of the QX50 and QX55 resulted in sharply lower sales for both models, but those declines were largely offset by the introduction of the new QX65.
The new QX65 attracted 1,256 buyers during the quarter. The five-seat SUV is based on the larger QX60 and starts at $53,990 before a $1,545 destination fee. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 286 lb-ft (387 Nm) of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
The QX60 remained Infiniti’s best-selling model with 7,581 second-quarter sales, an increase of 3.5% year over year.
The flagship QX80 delivered its best second quarter ever, with sales rising 18.5% to 3,402 units. However, year-to-date sales for the full-size SUV were down 9.4%.
