The 2027 Genesis G70 appears set to lose its powerful twin-turbo V6, with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s FuelEconomy.gov database listing only the four-cylinder version for the new model year. Genesis has not yet released official 2027 G70 details or confirmed whether the V6 is being discontinued.

EPA Listing Points to a Four-Cylinder-Only G70

Genesis has not published official information for the 2027 G70, but the EPA’s publicly accessible FuelEconomy.gov website has recently added efficiency figures for the 2027 Genesis lineup.

As initially spotted by Motor1, a search for the 2027 G70 shows only the four-cylinder model. That suggests the twin-turbo V6 could be discontinued for the new model year.

The four-cylinder engine produces 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, but it falls short of the V6’s 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. The V6 also puts the G70 within range of six-cylinder versions of the BMW 3 Series and the Audi S5.

Not every Genesis model has appeared in the EPA’s database yet. The G90 flagship sedan is not listed, while the GV90 SUV is also absent. That is not surprising because Genesis revealed the GV90 less than a week ago.

Genesis has been contacted for confirmation and comment but had not responded at the time of publishing. The information will be updated if a response is received.

The Twin-Turbo V6 Is Still Available Elsewhere

Even if the G70 loses its V6, the engine will not disappear entirely from the Genesis lineup. The similarly sized GV70 SUV, the midsize G80 sedan and the midsize GV80 SUV all continue to offer a twin-turbo V6.

Those models use an updated 3.5-liter version rather than the G70’s 3.3-liter engine. The newer engine produces 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque.

The GV80 Coupe and G90 also offer versions that pair the twin-turbo V6 with an electric supercharger. Those versions produce 409 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque.

G70 Remains Genesis’ Bestselling Sedan

The G70 remains an important part of Genesis sales despite the brand’s GV80 and GV70 SUVs being its biggest sellers.

The G70 recorded 6,653 sales through July of this year, roughly three times the sales of the next-best-selling Genesis sedan, the G80. It is also the brand’s third-best-selling model overall, with sales slightly higher than they were last year.

What the V6 Change Could Mean for the G70

The loss of the V6 could appear significant because the engine helps the G70 compete with established luxury models. However, the G70 continues to sell in significant numbers, while Genesis remains focused on becoming a true, full-line luxury automaker.

A more likely explanation is that Genesis and Hyundai Motor Group are phasing out the 3.3-liter engine altogether.

The G70 will also be a decade old in the 2027 model year and has received only a single refresh. A new G70 generation could therefore be in preparation. A report previously suggested that the next-generation model could be revealed this year.

For now, the G70 may continue with its four-cylinder engine while Genesis prepares its next-generation model.
