The Ferrari 296 Challenge Stradale could be revealed later in 2026, with November emerging as a potential debut month for a road-legal, track-focused version of the 296. The model is expected to take a different approach from the 296 Speciale by reportedly dropping the hybrid system in favor of pure internal-combustion performance.
A Road-Legal 296 Challenge
Ferrari is already preparing the 296 Challenge, but that model is designed exclusively for the track and is not road legal. Earlier this year, however, a test mule resembling the 296 Challenge was spotted driving on public roads, suggesting that Ferrari could be developing a road-legal version.
That has led to the assumption that the upcoming model could be called the 296 Challenge Stradale. The last Challenge Stradale was based on the 360 Modena, which debuted more than two decades ago. Now, the 296 could take up that mantle roughly 20 years later.
More Aggressive Ferrari 296 Design
The Supercar Blog has reported additional details about the new Ferrari, including a potential November launch date. The model has reportedly been spotted several times, with more information emerging from the latest sightings.
The test car features a distinctive aerodynamic package. The most prominent element is a massive swan-neck rear wing that is most likely made from carbon fiber. The car also appears to have more aggressive side skirts and an exaggerated front spoiler.
Its headlights still make it recognizable as a Ferrari 296, but the added aerodynamic components distinguish it clearly from the standard model.
Hybrid System Reportedly Dropped
One of the most significant reported changes is the removal of the hybrid system from the twin-turbo V6, which would make the Challenge Stradale a pure internal-combustion-engine vehicle.
While removing the hybrid system could appear to be a downgrade, the move would make sense for a lightweight, track-focused model. The additional weight of a hybrid system would work against the goal of reducing the car’s weight for performance.
According to the source, the 296 Challenge will reportedly produce 720 horsepower and weigh just 2,866 pounds dry.
Potential November 2026 Debut
The Ferrari 296 Challenge Stradale is expected to arrive in the latter part of 2026, with November currently identified as a possible launch month. However, Ferrari has not announced the model or confirmed a launch date at this point.
For now, the available reports point to November as the likely month for the debut of what could become a more serious, track-focused version of the Ferrari 296.
