PG&E is expanding its V2X program in California to include more electric vehicles and charger options, giving eligible EV owners more ways to use their vehicle batteries to support their homes and the power grid.
PG&E Expands V2X Eligibility
Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) announced that it is adding new EVs and charger options through partnerships with Bidirectional Energy and PowerFlex.
The expanded V2X program now includes EVs from Kia, Polestar, Volvo and Nissan, along with a new model from GM, the Chevy Bolt. These vehicles join an existing eligibility list that includes Ford, Tesla, Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac.
V2X, or vehicle-to-everything, allows EV owners to use their vehicle’s battery power in several ways. According to PG&E, the technology can provide backup power to a home during outages, help manage household energy costs, send electricity back to the grid when demand is high and support overall grid reliability.
EV Owners Can Receive Incentives
Participating in PG&E’s V2X ecosystem can also provide financial incentives. The incentive program is available until June 2027.
Residential owners can receive up to $2,500 in incentives, with the amount increasing to $3,000 for those living in disadvantaged areas. The first 250 customers can also receive an additional $1,500 early adopter fee.
Business owners are eligible as well, with incentives worth up to $4,500. That amount increases to $5,000 for businesses in disadvantaged areas.
Eligible EVs and Chargers Are Required
PG&E’s V2X system is not simply a plug-and-play setup. Owners must use eligible vehicles and chargers to participate in V2X and qualify for the incentive program.
PG&E provides a full list of eligible cars and chargers for the program. As more V2X-capable vehicles and states become available, the technology can provide additional ways for EV owners to use their vehicle batteries while supporting the power grid.
The expansion brings more EV brands and models into PG&E’s V2X program while offering residential and business owners incentives for participating through June 2027.
