The Toyota C-HR now has two very different identities depending on where it is sold. For 2026, the U.S.-market C-HR has become a fully electric subcompact SUV, while the European and other overseas versions remain hybrid crossovers. Now, the latter is getting a new GR Sport treatment as the C-HR approaches its 10th birthday.

A Stealthier C-HR GR Sport Design

The most noticeable update to the European C-HR GR Sport is its new Onyx Grey Matte paint finish. Toyota says the darker shade is designed to emphasize the crossover’s coupe-like curves and sharp body lines while giving it a stronger performance-oriented appearance.

The matte finish is available exclusively with the Bi-tone+ configuration, combining a gray body with a black roof and black rear panels. The setup complements the GR Sport’s motorsport-inspired details while retaining the familiar C-HR silhouette.

Toyota also adds exclusive 20-inch matte gray alloy wheels to the GR Sport. Combined with the new exterior finish, the wheels give the updated C-HR a more distinctive appearance.

European C-HR Keeps Its Premium Cabin Features

Inside, the C-HR GR Sport includes a head-up display as standard equipment. Buyers can also select a panoramic glass roof, JBL premium sound and signature bi-tone interior color combinations.

The cabin otherwise follows the design of the second-generation C-HR introduced in Europe in 2023. Features include flush door handles, 64-color ambient lighting, a panoramic roof without the usual sunshade and Toyota’s digital cockpit.

GR Sport Adds Suspension Upgrades

The European C-HR GR Sport also differs from the American electric model beneath the body. Toyota equips it with Frequency Selective Control shock absorbers designed to adjust to road conditions, along with a front strut damper intended to reduce vibrations and road noise while improving ride smoothness.

For overseas buyers, the C-HR is offered with three electrified powertrains. The plug-in hybrid can travel up to 41 miles in EV mode under the WLTP cycle, while city driving can extend that range to around 62 miles before the gas engine activates.

A Different C-HR for U.S. Buyers

Those figures do not apply to the U.S.-spec C-HR. The American model is fully electric and uses its own hardware, with different styling, dimensions and performance goals from the European hybrid crossover.

Orders for the C-HR GR Sport are already open across Europe, while American buyers will continue to get their own distinct version of the C-HR.
