The 2027 Dodge Durango is adding another customization option as Dodge introduces After Dark, a new deep metallic blue exterior color priced at $595. The addition gives Durango buyers a ninth exterior color, coming just weeks after the vivid Redeye paint debuted for the SUV.
After Dark Adds a New Look to the Durango
After Dark is positioned as the opposite of the recently introduced Redeye finish. The deep metallic blue paint changes with the natural light, showing distinct metallic highlights in direct sunlight and taking on a moodier appearance in darker conditions.
“Dodge customers don’t blend in — and neither should their vehicles,” said Matt McAlear, Dodge CEO. “You see that passion everywhere, from Roadkill Nights through Cruise Week, where bold color and personal expression take center stage. After Dark and new options like tinted dual stripes give our customers even more ways to build a Dodge with attitude, make it unmistakably their own and stand apart from everything else on the road.”
With After Dark, the Durango’s exterior color palette now includes nine choices:
- After Dark
- Redeye
- B5 Blue
- Destroyer Grey
- Green Machine
- Night Moves
- Pitch Black
- Red Oxide
- White Knuckle
2027 Dodge Durango Offers Extensive Customization
The Durango’s customization options extend well beyond exterior paint. Dodge introduced Tinted Dual Stripes for the SUV in August, while the Brass Monkey Package adds numerous bronze exterior accents.
Buyers choosing the 710-horsepower Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak can select from more than 16 million possible build combinations. The choices include various stripes, wheel designs and interior finishes.
That level of customization is not available in more conservative midsize rivals such as the Honda Pilot and Toyota Grand Highlander.
Durango Remains a Performance Benchmark
Nearly 16 years after the third-generation Dodge Durango entered production, the powerful SUV continues to compete with newer rivals. The Durango has received incremental improvements over the years, and sales increased by 12% in the first half of this year.
No other gas-powered SUV in this class has the power offered across the Durango lineup. Every model now uses some version of the Hemi V8, with the base GT producing 360 horsepower from its 5.7-liter engine.
The R/T 392 produces 475 hp from its 6.4-liter V8. At the top of the lineup, the SRT Hellcat uses a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 producing 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque.
The SRT Hellcat can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and has an NHRA-certified quarter-mile time of 11.5 seconds.
Power, Space and Towing Capability
The Durango’s performance extends beyond straight-line acceleration. The SUV can accommodate the whole family and tow up to 8,700 lbs., a best-in-class figure.
The Durango SRT Hellcat was driven earlier this year, with the driving experience proving difficult to fault. At lower speeds, the SUV is surprisingly docile, while its supercharged V8 quickly comes alive as the Durango surges forward.
With its combination of speed, comfort, practicality and extensive customization, the Durango continues to find favor with buyers even as newer, more advanced competitors enter and leave the segment.
