Genesis posted encouraging August sales results, led by the GV80 SUV as the luxury brand continues its steady growth against established competitors such as BMW and Mercedes. Both versions of the GV80 recorded month-over-month gains in August, giving Genesis another positive sign as it expands its presence in the luxury market.

GV80 Delivers Genesis’ Strongest August Yet

Genesis reports sales for the GV80 separately for the standard model and the “coupe” version. Both recorded a 3% month-over-month increase in August, making it the SUV’s best month yet.

Genesis sold 2,350 examples of the regular GV80 in August, 70 more than in August 2025. The fastback version reached 361 sales, an increase of 11 vehicles compared with August 2025.

Through the year so far, the conventional GV80 has reached 15,731 units, up 7% and 1,003 units from the same period last year. The fastback has recorded 2,516 units, an increase of 6% and 145 vehicles.

The results place the GV80 comfortably in second place among Genesis’ best-selling models, behind the GV70. The fastback ranks fourth among the brand’s bestsellers.

G80 Sedan Posts a Monthly Sales Increase

The G80 sedan was the only other Genesis model to record a month-over-month sales increase in August. Sales climbed 17%, rising from 322 units in August last year to 376 this month.

Despite the monthly improvement, the G80 is down 4% for the year.

The largest sales decline among Genesis models came from the Electrified G80, but the model has been discontinued, leaving basically no new examples available for sale.

Mixed Results Across the Genesis Lineup

Among models that remain on sale, the Electrified GV70 recorded the largest percentage decline month-over-month, falling 70%. Its sales for the year are down 90%.

The G90 flagship sedan and GV60 electric SUV both declined for the month and the year. The GV70 and G70, meanwhile, were down in August but remain up for the year.

For Genesis, the GV80, GV70 and G70 are the three models it would most want to see growing because they are the brand’s top three sellers.

The GV70 leads Genesis sales with 23,659 units, representing a 13% increase over last year. That performance has made a significant contribution to the brand’s overall 3% improvement compared with 2025.

Genesis Continues Its Steady Growth

Genesis is not currently growing by leaps and bounds, but its sales are increasing steadily at a time when many automakers are shrinking.

The brand also has opportunities to grow more quickly as it expands its offerings into other areas, including more performance and luxury. The full-size GV90 could also become a much bigger flagship success than the G90 sedan.

Even Lexus has had to drop its flagship sedan, highlighting the importance of SUVs in the market. Genesis remains well behind its German competitors in sales, but its recent results show continued progress as the brand works to close the gap.
