A remarkably preserved 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window has surfaced with an unusual combination of rare factory options, including air conditioning, a 300-horsepower Small Block engine and a Powerglide automatic transmission. The unrestored Stingray demonstrates how a specific factory specification can make an otherwise standard variant exceptionally rare.

Rare Specifications Can Add Value Beyond the Model

The value of most classic cars is often tied to the specific variant. A 1960s Chevrolet Corvette Z06, for example, is considered rare and expensive, with only 199 ever produced.

But there is also a market for more conventional variants that were ordered by their original owners with exceptionally rare factory features. One such example was discovered by YouTuber Steve Magnante: a rare 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window with factory options that few buyers selected.

An Unrestored and Preserved Split-Window Corvette

The Corvette is an unrestored 1963 Stingray split-window coupe finished in its original Ermine White paint. Finding a car of this age preserved in one piece is notable, but this particular example is further distinguished by its uncommon factory equipment.

The 1963 model year introduced the now-iconic split rear window and marked the first closed-roof body style. However, the two-piece rear window was not universally popular, as it reportedly hindered rear visibility enough that some owners purchased conversion kits.

300-HP Small Block and Rare Powerglide Transmission

Among the Corvette’s factory upgrades is a 300-horsepower version of the legendary Chevrolet Small Block engine. Considered a mid-variant option, the powertrain featured cast aluminum valve covers and a single four-barrel carburetor.

The engine was paired with a rare two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, which cost buyers an additional $199 when the car was new.

Factory Air Conditioning Was Ordered by Only 278 Buyers

While the performance equipment adds to the car’s appeal, its most unusual feature may be its factory-optioned climate control system. The C60 Regular Production Option, which added factory air conditioning, was expensive at the time.

As a result, only 278 buyers selected the option during the 1963 production year, making it one of the rarest features found on this particular Corvette.

Rare Saddle Leather Adds Another Layer of Exclusivity

The interior remains remarkably preserved, with immaculate and untouched saddle leather. That interior option was equipped on only 1,114 cars.

With its original paint, preserved interior, upgraded 300-horsepower engine, Powerglide automatic transmission and exceptionally rare factory air conditioning, this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette combines several uncommon specifications in one vehicle. Given that collection of factory upgrades, it could potentially represent a one-of-one model.
