The 2027 Mercedes-AMG C-Class EV has been spotted testing ahead of its expected clash with the first-ever all-electric M3, revealing a sharper design, wider stance, and more aggressive bodywork. The prototype offers a clearer look at AMG’s styling direction, while the automaker is also preparing a combustion-powered C-Class for 2027.
2027 Mercedes-AMG C-Class EV Gets a Wider Stance
Mercedes-Benz revealed the new electric C-Class in April, featuring a fastback-style rear end that copies the Audi A5. Now, the AMG version has appeared in testing with considerably less of the deceptive cladding seen on other prototypes covered in vinyl camouflage.
The prototype carries several familiar AMG design cues, including a large central grille panel, an upturned lower grille opening and large lower side intakes. The outer intake borders also appear to protrude from the bodywork like canards, although their aerodynamic effects remain unclear.
Both the front and rear wheel arches are significantly wider, creating room for a broader track and larger wheels and tires. At the rear, the arches feature a pronounced bulge that flows into the rear door’s shoulder line before extending toward the taillights.
AMG Styling Extends to the Rear
The sloped rear end and trunk lid are topped by a significant deployable spoiler. Exposed portions of the prototype also reveal red paint and a large faux diffuser panel.
The diffuser will probably feature strakes similar to those seen on the all-electric AMG GT 4-Door. Multi-spoke wheels, drilled brake discs, three-pointed-star-shaped daytime running lights and multiple AMG badges round out the prototype’s appearance.
Electric AMG C-Class Could Deliver More Than 700 HP
The electric AMG C-Class will be built on the MB.EA-M platform, an architecture adaptation designed specifically for mid-size vehicles like the GLC EQ.
The same platform technology is also used on the AMG CLA 45 EV, which offers 671 horsepower and 1,297 lb-ft of torque. Spies had previously indicated that the electric C 63 would produce more than 600 hp, but the CLA’s substantially higher output raises the possibility that the C 63 could make more than 700 hp, potentially approaching 800.
With the electric M3 expected to produce well over 800 hp, AMG may decide to go even higher. However, the final performance figures will have to wait until both high-performance EVs launch, likely sometime in the first half of 2027.
Combustion C-Class Also Planned for 2027
Mercedes-AMG’s electric C-Class may not ultimately carry the C 63 badge, as its final designation remains unclear. At the same time, buyers who do not want an EV will have another option, with a combustion-powered version of the C-Class already revealed for 2027 and AMG set to apply its performance treatment there as well.
The 2027 Mercedes-AMG C-Class EV is therefore taking shape with wider proportions, more aggressive AMG styling and potentially more than 700 hp, ahead of its anticipated launch in the first half of 2027.
