General Motors has issued a service bulletin over a software-related issue that can cause the heated seats in some Cadillac Escalade vehicles to stop working as the cabin temperature rises, highlighting a potential problem involving the vehicle’s Body Control Module.

Heated Seats Can Stop Working

According to a report published by GM Authority, GM issued service bulletin PIT6539 addressing malfunctioning heated seats in some Cadillac Escalade vehicles.

The bulletin says the heated seats may operate normally during the first drive of the day but become inoperable later. The issue occurs after the vehicle has been shut off for an extended period, when the temperature inside the cabin increases.

GM states that the problem can occur when the cabin temperature exceeds 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

Software Glitch Linked to Body Control Module

GM says the possible software glitch behind the issue is located in the Body Control Module (BCM). However, the automaker has not yet provided details about a permanent solution because the information currently available is based on a preliminary investigation.

The Escalade shares its platform and parts with other GM models, meaning the issue also affects the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL.

At this time, the service bulletin applies to the North American market.

GM Still Determining the Permanent Fix

The issue presents an unusual situation because the heated seats can malfunction when the vehicle’s cabin becomes particularly warm. GM is aware of the problem and is investigating the cause.

The automaker says it will update or replace the preliminary information bulletin with a technical service bulletin once it determines whether the solution involves a software fix or something else.
