The Volkswagen ID. Polo is quickly becoming a top seller for the German automaker, with more than 30,000 units already on the order list since sales began in April. The strong demand comes as Volkswagen reshapes its strategy and focuses on affordable electric vehicles in the European market.
Volkswagen ID. Polo Gains Strong Demand
The Volkswagen Group has recently faced declining global sales and has responded by regrouping and reconsidering its overall strategy. The changes have included manufacturing plant closures, massive layoffs and a streamlined model lineup focused on segments that matter and can be sold.
Volkswagen has initially concentrated its efforts on improving performance in its home European market. In recent months, several affordable new EVs from Volkswagen, Skoda and Cupra have begun reaching dealerships across the continent.
Among them is the Volkswagen ID. Polo, which shares its platform and some features with the Skoda Epiq. According to Automotive News Europe, the ID. Polo has recorded more than 30,000 orders since sales began in April of this year.
Automotive News also obtained a quote from a dealership saying the entire ID. Polo range is sold out, with some customers now facing wait times of at least 10 months.
Skoda Epiq Also Draws 35,000 Orders
The closely related Skoda Epiq is seeing similarly strong interest. The model has already accumulated 35,000 orders since sales began in July.
A Skoda spokesperson told the news outlet that the Epiq is quickly gaining interest and said the brand has already “struck a nerve.”
The strong sales of both models come as cars and fuel continue to increase in price, while affordable EV models are attracting significant market interest.
High Demand Creates a Production Challenge
Strong customer interest is positive for Volkswagen and Skoda, but the volume of orders also creates a challenge in meeting market demand.
Volkswagen is aiming to address the production pressure by increasing output at its Spanish factory in Martorell for the ID. Polo. Production of the Epiq is also set to increase at the Volkswagen factory in Pamplona.
The moves come as Volkswagen continues its effort to streamline its lineup and focus on affordable EV models that are drawing strong demand across the European market.
