Toyota’s GR GT sports car and GR GT3 race car made their latest public appearance at Laguna Seca during Monterey Car Week, where the two V8-powered machines completed demonstration laps. The appearance offered another look at the cars as Toyota continues to withhold some key specifications ahead of their expected 2027 availability.

Toyota Brings GR GT V8s to Laguna Seca

The two sports cars arrived at Laguna Seca as part of Toyota’s tour of its running examples. Drivers took both cars out for demonstration laps during Monterey Car Week festivities.

Photographer and writer Mike Garrett, who goes by Japanifornia on Instagram, captured the cars traveling through the Corkscrew, Laguna Seca’s famous section known for its combination of tight turns and dramatic elevation change.

The deep exhaust note from both cars strongly indicates the use of traditional cross-plane crankshaft V8 engines. The sound resembles that of an American sports or muscle car, with no clearly distinct, higher-pitched exhaust note from either vehicle.

The GR GT3 race car appears to be louder than the road car, which is understandable. A noticeable whine can also be heard at certain points, and that sound comes from the race car’s transmission.

What Toyota Has Revealed About the GR GT

Toyota has already disclosed several details about the GR GT. Its V8 engine uses a dry-sump lubrication system and features a pair of turbochargers positioned in the valley between the cylinder heads.

The transmission is mounted at the rear alongside a small hybrid motor. The car uses an aluminum chassis with double-wishbone suspension at all four corners, while carbon ceramic Brembo disc brakes provide stopping power.

Toyota has also said the GR GT was developed with the GR GT3 race car in mind. The two vehicles share much of their construction, although their engines will differ.

The GR GT3 race car does not use any hybrid power. Its chassis is also shared with the new Lexus LFA, although that model is slated to be a full EV and has significantly different styling.

GR GT Power, Price and Availability

Several important details about the GR GT remain undisclosed, including its final price, power and torque figures. The car is expected to cost more than $200,000.

Toyota has said it is targeting around 641 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, but final figures have not yet been provided.

The GR GT is expected to become available in 2027. Initial production will be limited to around 200 to 250 cars, with Toyota planning to continue building the vehicle to meet additional demand.
