Jaguar is preparing for the upcoming reveal of the Type 01 in New York next month, marking its first model since the brand transitioned into an ultra-luxury, electric-only automaker. With the company’s electric future riding heavily on the new model, Jaguar is taking extensive steps to avoid the reliability problems that affected the I-Pace.

Jaguar Targets Reliability Problems

JLR is closely examining what went wrong with the I-Pace as it prepares for the Type 01 launch. The company considers reliability a top priority, particularly as Jaguar works to overcome a reputation for poor reliability reflected in data from JD Power, Consumer Reports and others.

The biggest issue affecting the I-Pace involved its battery, with the problem stemming from manufacturing defects at Jaguar’s third-party supplier. In response, JLR plans to place outsourced components under heavier and more consistent scrutiny to ensure quality standards remain consistent.

Chief engineer Jon Darlington told Automotive News that the Type 01 is undergoing more extensive testing than any other Jaguar model in history.

Jaguar is also using artificial intelligence to analyze data and identify potential issues more effectively. JLR says these improved practices will not be limited to Jaguar, with the Range Rover Electric also representing a major step toward improving reliability.

Range Rover Electric Undergoes Extensive Testing

The same approach being applied to the Type 01 is also being used for the Range Rover EV. The vehicle is undergoing 250,000 hours and 900,000 miles of rigorous testing.

The results are already reflected in Range Rover’s position in JD Power’s Initial Quality Study. In 2026, Range Rover climbed to 10th place, compared with 22nd last year.

Problems reported during the first 90 days of ownership also declined, falling from 208 problems per 100 vehicles to 173.

With the Type 01 approaching its New York reveal, JLR is applying the lessons from the I-Pace and its expanded testing and quality-control efforts to Jaguar’s new electric-only era.
