The 2027 F-150 is getting a series of key updates as Ford works to keep its full-size pickup competitive. The latest model adds a new base engine, expands availability of the 5.0-liter V8, introduces lower-cost off-road trims and gives BlueCruise hands-free towing capability.

2027 F-150 Gets a Mild Exterior Update

The 2027 F-150 represents the second refresh of the 14th-generation truck that debuted in 2021. However, the visual changes are limited, making the new model difficult to distinguish from the version introduced in 2024.

XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum models receive new wheels and a revised grille texture. The XL remains almost entirely unchanged from a styling perspective.

The cabin also carries over much of its previous design. A 12.0-inch center touchscreen is standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

XL and STX models receive a 4.0-inch productivity display between two analog gauges, while XLT and higher trims get a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster.

New 2027 F-150 Carhartt Trim Adds Unique Styling

The biggest cosmetic change comes with the new 2027 Carhartt trim. Following a similar approach to the Super Duty, the F-150 Carhartt features exterior badging and graphics, unique 20-inch wheels, a standard spray-in bedliner, Lobo-sourced headlights and a Tremor hood.

Inside, the trim gets unique cloth upholstery designed to mimic Carhartt’s workwear, with tan contrast stitching on the seats, center console, door panels and steering wheel.

Ford Expands 5.0-Liter V8 Availability

One of the biggest changes for the 2027 F-150 is the expanded availability of Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8. On the outgoing truck, Platinum and King Ranch models were offered only with the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 in either EcoBoost or PowerBoost hybrid form.

For 2027, the 5.0-liter V8 will be available in almost every F-150 variant, from the base XL through the flagship Platinum. The Raptor remains the exception.

The Raptor offers either a 450-horsepower, 510-pound-foot high-output EcoBoost or a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing 720 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque.

The 5.0-liter V8 itself remains unchanged, producing 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. It has a 12,800-pound towing capacity and a 2,235-pound payload rating.

Both figures trail the EcoBoost, which can tow up to 13,500 pounds and carry a 2,440-pound payload. However, the V8’s simplicity and lower initial cost could make it attractive to some truck buyers.

New 3.0-Liter EcoBoost Becomes the Base Engine

The other major powertrain change is a new base engine. A twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 replaces the outgoing 2.7-liter engine.

The new engine shares the previous unit’s core architecture, including a compacted graphite iron engine block and aluminum cylinder heads. Output remains at 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

Ford says the new 3.0-liter EcoBoost produces its torque earlier, delivering about 10 percent more torque during average daily driving than its predecessor.

The remaining engines carry over for 2027. The standard-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost continues with 400 horsepower and 500 pound-feet, while the PowerBoost hybrid remains the mainstream torque leader with 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet.

New Tremor and Raptor Low Trims Cut Costs

Ford is also adding two lower-cost off-road configurations to the 2027 F-150 lineup.

The Tremor now gets a Low package, codenamed 400A, with an interior based on the STX rather than the XLT. It uses a polyurethane steering wheel instead of a leather-wrapped unit and manual air conditioning instead of dual-zone climate control.

The package also removes heated seats and the power rear window, while replacing the eight-speaker B&O audio system with a six-speaker system.

Those changes are expected to reduce the Tremor’s starting price by about $3,000 without removing its off-road equipment. The result is a roughly $60,000 pickup equipped with a locking rear differential, longer-travel shocks and springs, and unique suspension and steering components designed to improve performance over rocks and dirt.

Ford is also introducing a new Raptor Low 800A trim for 2027, starting at $74,995. That is $4,010 less than the 2026 Raptor.

In exchange for the lower price, buyers give up features including the power-adjustable steering column, 14-speaker B&O audio system, heated rear seats and head-up display.

The Raptor Low retains heated and ventilated front seats and an eight-speaker B&O audio system. The F-150 Raptor also loses its fog lamps, which could benefit buyers planning to install aftermarket off-road lighting.

The expected starting price for the 2027 Raptor is about $76,000 plus destination when it arrives at dealers.

BlueCruise Adds Hands-Free Towing

Ford’s BlueCruise driver-assistance system also receives a major update for the 2027 F-150. Every model equipped with BlueCruise will gain hands-free towing capability.

BlueCruise is available on XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Tremor models. The system supports hands-free towing up to 10,000 pounds.

Ford has also added safety measures for trailer sway. If BlueCruise detects sway while activated, it will tell the driver to put their hands on the steering wheel and actively reduce speed to the point at which the unwanted movement began before reengaging the hands-free system.

If trailer sway happens again, BlueCruise will deactivate after the driver takes control and will remain off for the duration of the key cycle. The behavior is intended to encourage drivers to pull over and inspect the trailer to make sure it is properly set up.

BlueCruise Towing Has Some Limitations

Ford says it tested BlueCruise with Towing across different terrains and situations, including wide-open freeways with strong cross-breezes and winding highways in the Appalachian Mountains.

However, drivers must enter their trailer’s dimensions before using the system. GM Super Cruise can operate automatically once a trailer is connected, using onboard sensors and vehicle acceleration to calculate its size.

BlueCruise also operates on about 130,000 miles of road, while Super Cruise has a map that is roughly four times more comprehensive.

For 2027, Ford is updating the F-150 with expanded V8 availability, a new base EcoBoost engine, lower-cost off-road trims and hands-free towing through BlueCruise, while making only limited exterior and interior styling changes.
