A new longevity study reveals a significant difference between Acura and Infiniti when it comes to vehicles reaching 250,000 miles. The analysis of more than 395 million vehicles found Acura ranked fourth among all brands, while Infiniti placed 17th.

Acura Outpaces Infiniti in Long-Term Durability

The study from iSeeCars examined which automakers’ vehicles are most and least likely to reach at least 250,000 miles. Toyota and Lexus led the overall rankings, while Acura also performed strongly at fourth place.

Acura ranked behind only Lexus among luxury brands. Infiniti, meanwhile, ranked 17th, behind luxury automakers including Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.

Across all automakers, vehicles had an average 5.4% chance of reaching 250,000 miles. Acura’s 9.5% figure was well above that average, while Infiniti’s 2.5% figure was significantly below it.

“Reaching 250,000 miles is an exceptionally high bar for any vehicle, which makes the distinction among the four highest-ranked brands meaningful,” said iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer. “Toyota, Lexus, Honda and Acura don’t just lead the list, they substantially outperform the average vehicle’s chances of reaching that high-mileage threshold.”

Acura vs. Infiniti Reliability

Long-term durability and reliability are not necessarily the same thing. A vehicle can remain on the road for hundreds of thousands of miles while requiring substantial maintenance along the way.

Recent reliability analysis comparing Acura, Infiniti and Lexus also found Acura ahead of Infiniti in several measurements, although Lexus ranked highest overall.

  • J.D. Power Initial Quality Study: Acura ranked 20th, while Infiniti ranked 27th.
  • J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study: Both Acura and Infiniti recorded 233 problems per 100 vehicles.
  • RepairPal Reliability Ratings: Acura ranked second, while Infiniti ranked 16th.

Acura also ranked seventh in Consumer Reports’ reliability rankings. Infiniti was not ranked because it did not meet the study’s minimum requirements.

Acura Has Lower Average Repair Costs

The reliability comparison also found a difference in average annual repair costs. Acura vehicles had average annual repair costs of $501, compared with $638 for Infiniti.

Infiniti models also had a higher chance of requiring severe repairs, adding another difference between the two luxury brands for buyers considering older vehicles.

For shoppers seeking a used luxury vehicle with less than $10,000 to spend, the study and reliability data show Acura with a higher likelihood of reaching 250,000 miles and lower average annual repair costs than Infiniti.
