Jaguar Land Rover is recalling roughly 23,000 vehicles after a defect can cause them to suddenly lose all motive power while driving, according to fresh filings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall affects multiple Land Rover and Jaguar models and involves an electrical failure that can unexpectedly stop fuel delivery without warning.
Why the Vehicles Can Suddenly Lose Power
According to the NHTSA report, the problem is linked to a critical electrical failure within the powertrain control module. When the system unexpectedly faults, fuel delivery can be cut off, causing the vehicle to shut down while it is being driven.
The report states that drivers receive no dashboard warnings before the vehicle shuts down, leaving them to move an unpowered SUV toward the highway shoulder.
Models Included in the Recall
The recall covers 2020-2024 Range Rover, Evoque, Defender, and Discovery Sport models, along with the 2019-2024 Range Rover Sport.
The 2021-2024 Discovery, Velar, Jaguar E-Pace, and F-Pace are primarily equipped with the brand’s smaller displacement powertrains. The issue follows a prior recall involving an almost identical safety defect across the automaker’s SUV lineup.
Jaguar Land Rover Recall Remedy
The mandated remedy requires owners to bring their vehicles to certified service facilities for a software flash and, if necessary, replacement of the wiring harness.
Dealerships will complete the repairs free of charge. However, replacement-parts availability remains a potential logistical issue. Official notification letters are scheduled to be mailed next month.
Safety Concerns Surround the Power Loss Defect
An abrupt loss of motive power at highway speeds creates a significant safety concern because the vehicle can shut down without providing drivers with a dashboard warning.
The recall comes after a previous campaign addressing a similar defect. The automaker is also defending a major property lawsuit involving a separate electrical defect that allegedly resulted in severe fire damage.
The latest Jaguar Land Rover recall affects roughly 23,000 vehicles and requires affected owners to have the specified software and wiring-related repairs completed at certified service facilities.
