The 2027 Chevrolet Trax is receiving a mid-cycle refresh with updated styling, new technology and a small increase in engine output. The subcompact crossover will continue using a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, reportedly producing 140 horsepower, while Chevrolet reduces the lineup from five trims to three.
2027 Chevrolet Trax Engine Gets a Small Power Boost
The updated Chevrolet Trax is expected to retain its 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, but output will reportedly increase to 140 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque.
That represents a three-horsepower gain over the outgoing model, while torque remains unchanged. However, peak torque will now arrive at 4,000 rpm, compared with 2,500 rpm in the current version.
Full specifications have not yet been disclosed, making it difficult to determine exactly how the revised engine tuning will affect the driving experience.
With peak torque arriving at higher engine speeds, the powertrain may need to rev more before delivering its maximum pulling force. This could influence acceleration at lower speeds, although the overall effect remains unclear without the complete torque curve.
If the changes result in smoother, less abrupt acceleration, they could potentially improve passenger comfort in a vehicle primarily used for daily driving.
Chevrolet Trax Keeps Front-Wheel Drive
The 2027 Trax will continue to use a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive across all trim levels.
All-wheel drive will remain unavailable, while the front-wheel-drive configuration helps keep costs down.
The reported engine changes are only part of the update. The refreshed Trax will also receive new connectivity features and updated vehicle electronics, including a larger 11.3-inch touchscreen with Google built-in and an 11-inch digital instrument cluster.
These technology upgrades are expected to be among the more significant changes for mainstream buyers.
2027 Chevrolet Trax Lineup Shrinks to Three Trims
Chevrolet is simplifying the Trax lineup from five trim levels to three. The 2027 model will be offered in LT, RS and Activ versions.
Pricing for the updated crossover has not yet been announced.
Chevrolet Trax Sales Remain Strong in the U.S.
The mid-cycle refresh arrives as the Trax continues to perform well in the American market.
Chevrolet sold 206,339 Trax models in 2025, an increase of 2.8% compared with the previous year and the nameplate’s best annual sales performance on record.
The crossover also recorded 57,917 sales in the third quarter of 2026, up 16.3% year over year.
With the Malibu discontinued, the Trax now serves as Chevrolet’s most affordable model. The refresh updates an already popular vehicle rather than attempting to revive a struggling nameplate.
2027 Chevrolet Trax Production and Pricing
The Chevrolet Trax continues to be built at General Motors’ Changwon plant in South Korea, leaving the vehicle subject to U.S. import tariffs.
Although Chevrolet has outlined the three-trim lineup, pricing and full specifications for the 2027 model have yet to be announced.
The refreshed Trax will bring modest reported engine improvements alongside updated technology and a simplified lineup as Chevrolet continues to build on the crossover’s strong U.S. sales.
