The manual C8 Corvette has finally become a reality, marking a major technical achievement for enthusiasts who have wanted a traditional six-speed gearbox in Chevrolet’s mid-engine sports car. Peitz Performance has developed what it describes as the world’s first manual C8 Corvette, but converting a production model could cost approximately $75,000.
The First Manual C8 Corvette Makes Its Debut
Since Chevrolet introduced the mid-engine C8 Corvette in July 2019, a manual transmission has remained unavailable. General Motors made clear from the beginning that the C8 was not designed for a manual gearbox and would not receive one during its lifecycle.
Exactly one year ago, transmission manufacturer Tremec, which supplies the C8 Corvette’s factory TR-9080 eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, presented a C8-compatible six-speed manual transaxle at the SEMA Show.
Peitz Performance has now completed the complicated conversion. The Tomball, Texas-based performance and tuning shop is displaying its manual C8 Corvette at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, with the car featured at Tremec’s booth.
The project uses Tremec’s TR-9060 six-speed manual gearbox and represents a significant engineering accomplishment because the C8 Corvette was never developed to accommodate a traditional stick shift.
Why the C8 Corvette Manual Conversion Was Difficult
Company founder and owner Alex Peitz explained that installing the TR-9060 was actually the easiest part of the project. Tremec had already demonstrated that the transmission could be installed in a C8 Corvette in November 2025.
The greater challenge involved adapting the vehicle’s electronic systems. The engine management, chassis controls, shift strategy, clutch operation and other components were originally designed around the factory dual-clutch transmission.
Replacing that system with a manual gearbox required solutions for each of these components.
Peitz Performance had an advantage because of its previous work modifying C8 Corvettes, including several race car builds. The company had already scanned the entire vehicle, providing the information needed to plan the shifter, linkage, clutch pedal and supporting components.
Porsche Shifter and Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Clutch Pedal
Peitz Performance used a Porsche shifter as the foundation for its custom six-speed manual setup. The clutch pedal came from a Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and was modified with a pedal stop and hydraulic clutch assist.
The flywheel was custom-built by McLeod using the ring and teeth from a C8 flywheel, with a clutch added to the assembly. The resulting combination was described as working “flawlessly.”
The factory electronics were replaced with a MoTeC plug-and-play system designed for the C8 Corvette and compatible with restomods, kit cars and race cars.
A MoTeC M182 engine management system controls the engine, while a MoTeC M150 PCM handles the factory DCT control or ignition cuts required for upshifting and downshifting with the manual gearbox.
The prototype also retains the factory C8 wiring harness, modified with custom connectors to simplify the conversion in late-model Corvettes.
Manual C8 Corvette Conversion Could Cost $75,000
Peitz Performance says the final production version will support the factory dashboard, ABS, power steering and other original vehicle systems.
For now, the world’s first manual C8 Corvette remains a track-day race car. Alex Peitz is running the vehicle in several racing series, including Gridlife, as part of the development process.
The company’s ultimate goal is to offer customers a complete manual transmission conversion through a single part number.
However, the projected price is substantial. The expected cost of the manual C8 Corvette conversion is $75,000, approximately the same amount required to purchase a brand-new 2027 Corvette Stingray Coupe.
The project demonstrates that a manual C8 Corvette conversion is technically possible, but its projected $75,000 price represents a significant investment for owners seeking a traditional six-speed driving experience.
