The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X continued its run of record-setting performance by winning Car and Driver’s 0-150-0 mph test, beating 12 other vehicles despite facing significantly more expensive competition. The result further highlighted the 1,250-horsepower hybrid’s ability to combine rapid acceleration with equally strong braking performance.
Corvette ZR1X Takes the Top Spot
The test was conducted at Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport in Michigan and measured more than how quickly each vehicle could reach 150 mph. Car and Driver also evaluated how effectively the cars could shed that speed, an important measure that distinguishes a well-rounded performance car from one focused primarily on straight-line acceleration.
That distinction is particularly relevant among electric vehicles. Their instant torque and immense power can produce extremely quick launches, while their heavy battery packs can make braking from high speeds more challenging.
1,250 Horsepower and Carbon-Ceramic Brakes
The 2026 Corvette ZR1X started at around $238,000, while Car and Driver’s test car carried a $255,960 sticker. The hybrid supercar weighs 4,125 pounds and produces 1,250 horsepower, resulting in a 3.3-pound-per-horsepower ratio.
The test car was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R ZP tires, 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, and 16.5-inch vented, cross-drilled carbon-ceramic brake discs.
Chevrolet considered removing the ZR1X’s rear wing to reduce drag but ultimately kept it because the additional downforce could help during braking.
The decision proved effective. The Corvette reached 150 mph in 9.1 seconds and then stopped in 4.8 seconds over 515 feet. Its combined 14.0-second time was enough to win the test, even though the all-electric Lucid Air Sapphire reached 150 mph faster and the McLaren 750S matched the Corvette’s braking performance.
How the 13 Vehicles Finished
The Lucid Air Sapphire finished with a 14.4-second combined time, followed by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach at 14.8 seconds and the McLaren 750S at 16.1 seconds.
- Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X — 14.0 seconds
- Lucid Air Sapphire — 14.4 seconds
- Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach — 14.8 seconds
- McLaren 750S — 16.1 seconds
- Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric — 16.4 seconds
- Porsche 911 Turbo S — 17.4 seconds
- BMW M5 — 21.8 seconds
- BMW M2 CS — 23.2 seconds
- Bentley Continental GT S — 24.1 seconds
- Audi RS6 Avant — 24.7 seconds
- Hyundai Ioniq 5 N — 27.4 seconds
- Dodge Charger Scat Pack — 37.2 seconds
- Hyundai Elantra N — 43.6 seconds
Corvette ZR1X Faces 200-Mph Test
Car and Driver also conducted a 0-200-0 mph test as a bonus, but only four vehicles participated because not every entry could reach 200 mph. The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, Lucid Air Sapphire, Porsche 911 Turbo S and McLaren 750S took part.
The Lucid Air Sapphire won that test with a 25.7-second run, roughly six seconds faster than the Corvette. The ZR1X experienced additional drag from its rear wing during its run to 200 mph.
A More Affordable Corvette ZR1 Option
The Corvette ZR1X’s performance comes at a starting price of around $238,000, but Chevrolet also offers a more affordable alternative in the ZR1. The ZR1 leaves out the hybrid system while still producing 1,064 horsepower, and its starting price remains below $200,000.
The ZR1X’s 14.0-second 0-150-0 mph result adds another strong performance showing to a car that has already set several records, including the fastest Nürburgring lap by an American production-series street-legal car.
