The Mercedes W111 One Eleven from Kugel Werks takes a classic luxury coupe and transforms it with modern Mercedes-AMG C63 S hardware, a 503-horsepower V8 and a $480,000 price tag. The result is a restomod that keeps the W111’s body while replacing much of what lies underneath.
From W111 Coupe to One Eleven
Purists and restomod builders may never agree on how classic cars should be treated, but restomods offer owners the freedom to move beyond original specifications. The approach can produce everything from modest projects to six-figure builds, with the only real limitations being imagination and budget.
Kugel Werks took that philosophy to the Mercedes W111 Coupe, a model that appeared before the S-Class Coupes, CLs and SECs. The W111 was positioned more as a personal luxury car than a grand tourer, and its design continues to project grace and elegance more than 50 years after it premiered.
Rather than simply modifying the classic coupe, Kugel Werks combined it with components from a previous-generation Mercedes-AMG C63, including the V8-powered car’s guts and chassis components. The company calls the finished creation the One Eleven.
Modern AMG Hardware Under a Classic Body
The One Eleven retains the W111’s body, but Kugel Werks removed the chrome and fitted bespoke bumpers. AMG Monoblock wheels and box-flare arches give the coupe a significantly different appearance.
The wider arches serve a purpose beyond styling. The One Eleven uses suspension components taken directly from the W205 C63 S, giving the classic Mercedes modern underpinnings.
The interior has not yet been shown. It is expected to adapt the C63’s dashboard layout while retaining classic elements elsewhere in the cabin.
503-HP Biturbo V8 Replaces the Original Power
Under the hood, the One Eleven does not use the 6.2-liter V8. Instead, it receives the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 from the C63 S.
The engine remains untouched from stock and produces 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. That represents a substantial increase over the most powerful engine available in the original W111, a 3.5-liter V8 producing 197 hp and 211 lb-ft of torque.
The drivetrain also moves well beyond the original car’s transmission choices. While the W111 was offered with either a four-speed manual or four-speed automatic, the One Eleven uses the C63 S’ seven-speed automatic transmission.
Kugel Werks One Eleven Price
Kugel Werks has put a $480,000 price tag on the One Eleven. Buyers seeking tweaks, changes or additional extras will pay more.
With its classic W111 body, modern C63 S chassis components and 503-hp biturbo V8, the Kugel Werks One Eleven represents a dramatic restomod interpretation of the Mercedes coupe.
