Ayrton Senna’s personal 1991 Honda NSX is now up for sale through RM Sotheby’s, offering a rare chance to own a car closely tied to the legendary Formula 1 driver’s involvement in the development of Honda’s iconic supercar.

Senna’s Personal Honda NSX

When Honda set out to develop a supercar capable of serving as a daily driver while competing with its European rivals, the automaker enlisted Ayrton Senna to help test and provide feedback on the NSX.

Senna became closely associated with the project, including through an iconic video showing him driving a Honda NSX around Suzuka while wearing high white socks and brown loafers.

His personal NSX, chassis number T000233, was finished in Formula Red with a contrasting black roof. The car was imported to Portugal and registered in March 1991, before being stored in Lisbon and driven when Senna was in the country to race at Estoril.

Senna used the car more frequently after purchasing property at the Quinta do Lago resort, where it served as his personal transportation between the resort and the racetrack. The NSX also appeared in the documentary Ayrton Senna: Racing Is In My Blood.

The NSX’s History After Senna

As part of his agreement with Honda as its F1 driver, Senna had access to a pair of black NSXs in addition to the Formula Red car. After Senna was tragically killed in an accident during the Imola Grand Prix, the car was initially retained by its dealership after Honda confirmed its Senna provenance.

The NSX subsequently changed hands four more times, in 2009, 2013, 2019 and 2024. Throwback photographs showing Senna with the car also provide evidence of his connection to it.

1991 Honda NSX Auction Listing

The car appears to have been preserved in immaculate condition. A photograph included with the listing shows approximately 63,000 kilometers, or 39,000 miles, of driving mileage.

RM Sotheby’s lists the car with a starting price of $679,000, with the listing reaching more than $1 million.

For a car so closely associated with one of racing’s most legendary drivers, the 1991 Honda NSX remains a significant part of Senna’s automotive legacy and is now being offered to a new owner.
