A new Jeep Grand Cherokee recall affects 328,381 SUVs over a rear coil spring installation issue that could allow the spring to detach while driving. The campaign, filed under NHTSA recall number 26V562, follows two previous recalls addressing the same problem.

New Grand Cherokee Recall Targets Rear Coil Springs

The latest recall covers the standard Grand Cherokee, the long-wheelbase Grand Cherokee L and the plug-in hybrid 4xe models. According to the recall report, rear coil springs may have been installed improperly during manufacturing or previous repairs, potentially allowing them to detach from the vehicle while it is being driven.

A detached spring could become a road hazard for other motorists, increasing the risk of a crash or injury without prior warning. The affected population includes 97,477 2022–2023 Grand Cherokees, 215,433 2021–2023 Grand Cherokee Ls and 15,471 2022–2023 Grand Cherokee PHEVs.

Stellantis estimates that 0.1% of the recall population has the defect. Vehicles equipped with air suspension are excluded from the campaign.

Third Recall Addresses the Same Problem

The rear coil spring issue has already been the subject of two recalls, including 23V413 and 26V051. The first recall was issued on June 1, 2023, followed by an updated safety campaign on January 22, 2026.

Because the problem continued to persist after those repairs, Stellantis has now issued a third recall to address the issue. As of August 6, 2026, the automaker was aware of 29 customer assistance records and 406 warranty claims potentially related to the rear coil spring assembly problem across all markets.

Stellantis said it was unaware of any potentially related accidents or injuries.

How Stellantis Plans to Fix the Grand Cherokee

As part of the remedy, dealers will replace both rear coil spring lower isolators on affected Grand Cherokee vehicles. Stellantis plans to send interim owner notifications between September 29 and October 7, 2026.

The recall report also references the company’s general reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.

Another Grand Cherokee Recall Involves Radio Software

The Grand Cherokee is also included in a separate recall involving other Stellantis models, including the Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Charger and Ram 1500.

That campaign addresses a radio software issue that may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. The separate safety campaign affects more than 840,000 vehicles in the U.S.

The latest recall adds another campaign involving the Grand Cherokee, with Stellantis preparing a remedy for the rear coil spring installation issue affecting 328,381 vehicles.
