Porsche is undergoing a major shift under new CEO Michael Leiters, who took charge on January 1, 2026, and the automaker’s future lineup could include a new flagship supercar related to models from Audi and Lamborghini.

Since Leiters took over, Porsche has announced plans to cut 5,000 jobs and restructure its business model around its core operations. That strategy includes moving away from non-primary assets such as its management and IT consulting subsidiary MHP, allowing the company to concentrate more resources on what it does best: building high-end sports cars.

Porsche’s New Direction Under Michael Leiters

Leiters’ approach is centered on putting greater resources behind Porsche’s core business rather than spreading them across multiple areas. He also wants to strengthen the 911 lineage and place more emphasis on bespoke vehicles because of their high profit margins.

One of the known projects is a gasoline-powered SUV internally codenamed the M1. The model will likely use Audi’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture, have close ties to the Q5, and offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain as an option. More details are expected in the future, with a potential release date set for 2028.

Could Porsche Build a New Flagship Supercar?

Beyond the M1 and the continued focus on the 911, Porsche’s future lineup remains less defined. Recent rumors, however, suggest the company could be developing a new supercar inspired by the same spirit as the 918 Spyder.

According to a report from Automotive News, it would not be farfetched to imagine the rumored Porsche using the same platform as the upcoming Audi Nuvolari. That would potentially make the Porsche a relative of the Lamborghini Temerario, because the Nuvolari is said to share a lot of its DNA with the Lamborghini.

The possibility would represent a Porsche built from an Audi platform that is also shared with Lamborghini. Such an approach would fit with common Volkswagen Group practices as well as Leiters’ vision for Porsche’s future.

Porsche’s Future Lineup Remains Unclear

For now, the details surrounding the rumored flagship remain limited, and Porsche has not provided further information about the project. The company is also slowly recovering after a difficult 2025, while Leiters has laid out ambitious plans for the automaker.

Following the financial difficulties Porsche faced last year, the company examined its business model closely and moved to make changes before conditions worsened. Leiters’ decisive actions and clear vision could shape the company’s next phase, although the direction of Porsche’s lineup will become clearer only with time.

A new flagship Porsche would be an important development to watch alongside the company’s broader trajectory. With Porsche directing more resources toward its primary focus, the strategy is intended to support better products, faster development and other improvements across the business.
