Subaru has been down to one sedan since the final Legacy rolled off the production line in September 2025, yet the discontinued model is still finding a few buyers. In August, Subaru sold just five Legacy sedans, though that was still enough to keep the model from becoming the brand’s worst-selling vehicle of 2026 so far.

Subaru Legacy Sales Plunge

The Legacy’s remaining sales are a sharp contrast to its performance when new examples were still being produced. Subaru sold 20 Legacy sedans in July and 56 in June, while August brought just five sales.

In August last year, Subaru sold 2,087 Legacy sedans. That means August 2026 sales were down 99.8% from the same month a year earlier.

Through August, Subaru has sold 2,206 Legacy sedans in 2026, an 85.5% decline compared with the same period last year.

BRZ Remains Subaru’s Worst Seller

Despite the Legacy’s sharp sales decline and discontinued status, another Subaru has sold even fewer units so far this year. The BRZ has recorded total sales of just 2,020 through August, putting it below the Legacy.

BRZ sales are also down 4.1% compared with last year’s total through August. However, the gap between the two models is narrowing quickly.

Subaru sold 235 BRZs in August alone. If the sports car posts a similar result next month, its year-to-date total would match the Legacy’s current 2,206 units.

Legacy Inventory Is Running Out

The Legacy’s sales are likely to remain in the single digits as remaining inventory runs out, and sales could eventually reach zero.

Even if the BRZ does not overtake the Legacy in September, it is expected to move ahead in October simply because Subaru continues to have a steady supply and demand for the model.

For now, the discontinued Legacy remains ahead of the BRZ in 2026 sales, but the numbers suggest that position may not last much longer.
